The Accidental Business Owner
When you were younger, you wanted to be an astronaut, or a princess, or a cowboy, or a nurse, or a doctor, or a
lawyer, or an engineer, or a computer wizard, or an artist, or an actor, or a.... And maybe, you even became
one of those for a time.
And now you find yourself a [your profession here] who is a business owner — an "accidental" business
owner. Maybe you were in a corporate job and you were downsized and you decided to try consulting... or you
couldn't stand to go back into the corporate maze. Maybe you got fed up with your boss and decided to show
them that you could do a better job. Maybe you heard that siren song of "do what you love" and headed out to
follow that dream.
It could be any of these... and more.... The details don't really matter. What matters is that
here you are in your business and you need help! Not only that, but, for your own reasons, you have to make
this work.
Who you are
You are a self-employed, small business owner who was never prepared for your role -- nobody taught you, you
didn't come from a family of entrepreneurs, and it wasn't your childhood dream. But now, here you are -- in
your own business... and it wasn't supposed to be this way. You have a family that is depending on you.
You are doing your best in your business... but it feels like you are all alone out there... and that everyone else
is doing okay... or even better. They don't seem to have the problems you have... and you don't know who to
ask to get your answers. You're making money -- but barely (or not making enough money) and you need
for the business to make more. You are working hard… harder than you ever have in your life, but if
you stop scrambling, it will all vanish in a moment. And you are getting tired… and maybe, just a little
scared.
What your issues tend to be
You weren't prepared for marketing, finding clients, dealing with employees, handling cash flow projections, and
setting up business systems. You didn't even know that there were systems to help you
— and you are putting your life and soul into your business, but it feels like a black hole. You're
starting to wonder how much longer you can keep it up. (And you don't want to drop any of those balls you are
juggling.) And then, there are those things you know you should do but you never seem to be able to make
yourself do them.
What you need most right now
What you most need right now is someone who can guide you — ending your isolation,
advise you on the systems you need to put into place *right now* and help you
learn what you need to know *right now* to grow your business in
a sustainable way.
You need someone to come along beside you and mentor you in the strategic, as well as the
day-to-day, so you can feel in control of your business and your time. Oh, yes, and you have
to make money, too. Lots of money would be nice, but at the very least enough for you and
your family to live comfortably.
